Three or Four Poor Results Could End Liam Rosenior’s Career at Chelsea
Mansion Sports – Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has received a warning that “three or four” negative results could bring his tenure at the club to an end, with the club’s tendency to make swift managerial changes cited as the main reason why he is considered likely to struggle in achieving long-term success at Stamford Bridge.
Rosenior began his tenure as head coach impressively, remaining unbeaten in his first five league matches and securing a place in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League. However, a former Blues player believes that the situation could change very quickly.
A Convincing Start for Rosenior
Despite lacking extensive experience at the highest level, the 41-year-old coach managed a smooth transition following the dismissal of Enzo Maresca.
He collected 13 out of a possible 15 points in the Premier League and orchestrated an unexpected away victory over Napoli in the Champions League to secure a top-eight finish in the league phase.
The only blemish on his record so far was a narrow defeat in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup against Arsenal over two legs.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s most recent league match ended in a draw after they squandered a two-goal lead against Leeds United.
Nevertheless, the West London side responded with a convincing victory over Rosenior’s former club, Hull City, on Friday night to secure a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
Former Player Urges Consistency
Despite the promising start, former Chelsea player Emmanuel Petit believes that the club’s unstable management approach makes long-term success far from certain.
“Can Liam Rosenior win the Premier League title with Chelsea? They change players every year. Consistency and stability are essential if you want to achieve something,” he said.
“You must retain players, have a vision, and adhere firmly to that vision. It does not matter if you go through difficult periods, you must remain consistent and believe in that plan. You must deliver the message to the dressing room that whatever happens on the pitch, even if the results are poor, we remain committed to our ideas. Liverpool did that and they won trophies. Manchester City did the same and they won trophies. Arsenal have done it for years and are now getting closer to the title. We will see at the end of the season.”
Warning of the Threat of Dismissal
The former World Cup-winning midfielder, who also played for Arsenal, warned that Rosenior is only “three or four” poor results away from dismissal, given Chelsea’s characteristic readiness to make drastic decisions.
“Look at Manchester United, look at Tottenham Hotspur, look at Chelsea, all those clubs,” he continued. “They have changed players and managers too often. Then suddenly you want them to win titles? And you ask me whether Liam Rosenior can win a title with Chelsea? I am not sure he will still be the manager in 10 months. If he experiences three or four bad results in succession, I would not be surprised if the board dismisses him.”
The Only Way to Avoid Pressure
Considering the track record of the BlueCo ownership, which has not hesitated to make changes, Petit’s view is difficult to dispute.
Rosenior has already become the fifth permanent head coach since the club’s takeover in 2022.
The two trophies won by his predecessor, Maresca, were not sufficient to preserve his position, although there were various other factors behind the scenes.
The English coach appears fully aware that victories are the only way to avoid pressure.
He stated, “My motivation is to make this club as successful as possible and to win the next match. All my energy and time are focused on the players, the team, how we conduct team meetings, and how we train. The other matters are merely noise, and I cannot influence them other than by winning football matches.”
Rosenior will attempt to continue his positive start when Chelsea host struggling Burnley on Saturday.
