Mansion Sports – Florian Wirtz gave high praise to Andoni Iraola's tactical vision after Liverpool played their pre-season match against AS Monaco.

Although the overall result at Anfield was disappointing, the creative German midfielder appears to be developing under new leadership as The Reds undergo a transition period following the Arne Slot era.

Wirtz Continues to Shine Despite Liverpool's Defeat at Anfield

Liverpool's latest pre-season match provided a combination of excitement over new tactical ideas and familiar frustration as they suffered a 3-2 defeat against AS Monaco at Anfield.

Although the result caused supporters to question the stability of the defensive line, Wirtz's individual performance became one of the biggest positive aspects.

The German international played in a more advanced number 10 role and managed to score in his second consecutive match. He displayed the creativity that Iraola wants to build as the centre of Liverpool's new attacking approach.

Speaking after the match ended, Wirtz immediately expressed his support for the style of play implemented by the former Bournemouth manager.

"In the last three years of what he did at Bournemouth, you can see what he is capable of doing with the team," Wirtz said in an interview with Sky Sports.

"Of course, we are looking forward to the opportunity to work with him. In the first few weeks, I can only say that I have enjoyed it. I have only been training for two weeks, but I have enjoyed it and I like the football ideas that he has."

Iraola Demands More from a Squad Beginning to Show Fatigue

While Wirtz is starting to find his rhythm, Andoni Iraola was less satisfied with the team's overall performance, particularly regarding their inability to maintain their intensity throughout the match.

Liverpool managed to take a two-goal lead early in the game but then experienced a significant decline in performance as the match progressed. This situation became a concern for the coaching staff.

Speaking to LFC TV, the Spanish coach issued a warning regarding the team's current fitness condition.

"The situation is very similar to the match we played against Leeds," Iraola told the club's official channel.

"We had a good first half, especially in the first 30 minutes. At the moment, perhaps we do not have more than that in terms of the performance level required to play in this way."

"They deserved to turn the game around and win. We won our first two pre-season matches, but we have not been able to maintain the required level throughout the entire period in the last two matches."

Defensive Concerns Continue to Trouble Anfield

The defeat against Monaco highlighted Liverpool's major need to strengthen their defensive line, especially as Virgil van Dijk returned to action without his regular defensive partner.

The captain played alongside young player Ivani Ndoye, but the lack of squad depth became clearly visible in the second half when Wataru Endo had to fill the central defensive position.

With a difficult Premier League opener against Newcastle United approaching, pressure is increasing on Liverpool's recruitment team to complete new signings as soon as possible.

Iraola understands that the defensive issues that previously troubled the team have not been fully resolved.

"It was truly incredible. I feel that the morale within this group is very good, and we are all working hard to make sure everything goes well. We will make absolutely certain that we are ready when the season begins."
