Mansion Sports – Marcus Rashford has officially been assigned a new squad number at Manchester United after returning to the club from an extended loan spell in Spain.

The surprising decision marks a major change in his career at Old Trafford, as the forward prepares to rejoin the first-team squad during the upcoming pre-season training camp in Ireland.

Rashford's New Beginning at Old Trafford

After experiencing a complicated period with Manchester United, Rashford has now been given the number 14 shirt.

Previously, Rashford wore the number 10 shirt before leaving the club, but that number now belongs to Matheus Cunha.

Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed the news by stating:

"EXCLUSIVE: Manchester United have decided to give Marcus Rashford a new squad number as a message of trust in him and reintegrate him as part of the team. Rashford is understood to be wearing number 14 and is now travelling with the squad. Unless a top European club offer arrives, he could stay."

The forward travelled on Sunday to join Michael Carrick and the squad in Dublin.

Rashford, whose current contract runs until June 2028, hopes to feel valued again after being absent for a significant period of time.

Transfer to Barcelona Confirmed Not to Happen

Rashford was previously expected to remain with Barcelona after enjoying a productive loan spell at Camp Nou last season.

During his time in Spain, Rashford made 49 appearances with a contribution of 14 goals and 14 assists, while helping the club win the Spanish League title and Spanish Super Cup.

Previously, he also spent half a season on loan with Aston Villa from February 2025, scoring four goals and providing six assists in 17 matches.

However, Barcelona chose a different direction by signing Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi.

After taking a break following the World Cup, Rashford is now focused on reviving his career in England.

Returning to the First-Team Squad

The decision represents a major change for Rashford, who previously experienced relationship issues with former manager Ruben Amorim.

The dispute caused him to be removed from the first-team setup for almost two years, halting his Manchester United career, which had recorded 426 appearances, 138 goals, and 79 assists.

Rashford had previously won the Europa League, two FA Cup trophies, and two League Cup titles with the club, as well as earning the Player of the Year award twice.

Now, Carrick has plans to once again utilize his abilities.

The manager confirmed his plans by saying:

"We will have a complete squad next week in Dublin. We will fly there directly and face Leeds on Wednesday. We have a few days in Dublin where the entire squad will be together, including Marcus, Kobbie [Mainoo], and Lisandro [Martinez]."
