Mansion Sports – Jude Bellingham reached his emotional limit at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano as Real Madrid suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to their city rivals, Atletico Madrid.

The England international was filmed involved in an angry confrontation with the match officials after tempers boiled over following a series of controversial decisions in the capital derby.

Bellingham Voices His Anger at Ortiz Arias

Tension in the Madrid derby immediately boiled over after the final whistle, with Jude Bellingham among the players leading the protests against referee Miguel Angel Ortiz Arias.

In footage that quickly circulated on social media, the former Borussia Dortmund player was seen approaching the official and repeatedly shouting, “Two red cards! Two!” to express his disbelief at the decisions made during the match.

The outburst brought an end to an extremely frustrating night for Los Blancos, who felt the officials’ decisions had fundamentally changed the course of the match and benefited Diego Simeone’s side.

Bellingham’s anger stemmed from two specific incidents in the first half when he felt Atletico players should already have been sent off.

The first incident involved a high-boot tackle from Cristian ‘Cuti’ Romero that made direct contact with Bellingham.

However, the incident only resulted in a yellow card despite having gone through a VAR review.

The second flashpoint occurred when Kang-in Lee escaped punishment after making a strong tackle on Fede Valverde.

The perceived injustice became even more significant when Real Madrid had to play with ten men in the second half, forcing the visitors to chase the game with fewer players, which ultimately proved too difficult to overcome.

Mourinho Slams the Refereeing Standards

While Bellingham voiced his complaints directly on the pitch, Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho was equally scathing in his assessment after the match.

The Portuguese manager, who has never shied away from controversy, questioned the experience of the officiating team and suggested there was systematic bias against his side.

Mourinho specifically criticised the appointment of Ortiz Arias, saying, “The referee does not have the experience to officiate a derby. He is 41 years old. He is a poor referee who has only officiated small matches.”

“Congratulations to the refereeing committee for this appointment. But Mr Trujillo does have a history with Real Madrid.”

Mourinho Revives the Negreira Controversy

The manager’s criticism did not stop with specific individuals. He then suggested that the shadow of past refereeing scandals continues to haunt Spain’s top-flight competition.

Referring to the notorious Negreira case, Mourinho questioned the integrity of the current situation by saying:

“Things happen in this stadium that are not normal. The goal disallowed for Osasuna was a joke, what happened in San Sebastian... La Liga is still the same as when I left it. We will fight. My players are going home sad. Negreira is not here, right? Or is he still here?”

Real Madrid File an Official Complaint

The anger within the club was subsequently expressed officially through a statement released shortly after the match.

Real Madrid described the refereeing performance as a “disaster.” The club outlined several complaints, focusing on what it considered a lack of consistency in the way its players were treated compared with Atletico players.

Real Madrid’s management also detailed specific incidents that it believed were handled incorrectly, beginning with a 35th-minute foul involving Cuti Romero. The club’s official statement explained the sequence of events:

“In the 35th minute, during a 50-50 challenge, Bellingham reached the ball before Romero, who fouled him with his left foot. Ortiz Arias initially showed a yellow card, but Trujillo Suarez then called him over to review the incident on the VAR monitor.”
