Mansion Sports – Tottenham Hotspur have intensified their search for new attacking talent by opening formal talks to sign AS Monaco forward Folarin Balogun.

The Premier League club wants to add greater firepower to Roberto De Zerbi’s attack and has laid the groundwork for a transfer worth around €60 million following the impressive performances of the United States international in France.

Tottenham Begin €60 Million Negotiations

Tottenham have taken concrete steps to secure Balogun from Monaco before the summer transfer window officially closes.

According to French publication L’Equipe, the North London club have opened discussions over a €60 million deal for the highly sought-after forward.

After recently appointing renowned agent Jorge Mendes to manage his affairs, the forward has attracted interest from several European suitors, including Newcastle, but Tottenham have taken the lead in the race.

Monaco appear willing to negotiate because the potential departure could drastically alter their transfer strategy while also reducing the financial pressure to sell other important assets such as Lamine Camara. De Zerbi is clearly eager to bring the forward back to England.

Impressive Performances Attract Premier League Interest

Balogun enjoyed an excellent season on the French Riviera, scoring 19 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions for the club last season.

His sharp form continued on the international stage, where he produced an impressive performance during the recent World Cup.

Tottenham view the former Arsenal player as an ideal candidate to revive an attack that has been highly inconsistent.

With Dominic Solanke currently struggling to score regularly, De Zerbi needs a reliable option in attack to drive the team aggressively toward qualification for European competition.

Balogun also feels that he still has unfinished business in the Premier League after previously making only 10 senior appearances.

Monaco Coach Determined to Keep Key Player

Despite growing interest from England, Monaco head coach Filipe Luis remains determined to retain his star player.

Speaking after a 1-0 victory in a pre-season friendly against Getafe on Thursday, Luis praised the forward’s unique profile while acknowledging that offers would arrive.

“He is one of our players. I know he will receive many offers considering last season and his performances at the World Cup,” Luis explained.

“He is a special player. You will not find many players on the market with the attributes he possesses. If he stays, I will be very, very happy to have him with us.” Monaco have a strong negotiating position because his contract runs until June 30, 2028.

Tottenham must now quickly decide whether to meet the substantial €60 million asking price or pursue alternative targets before the deadline passes.

If De Zerbi succeeds in completing a deal for Balogun, it would represent a major statement of their ambitions for the upcoming season.
